I visited an orthopedic surgeon for my knee checkup recently. The first question that he asked me was how I got my knee injured. I told him that the injury was due to a jerk I got while getting out of the bed earlier that morning. Additionally I told him that I can’t jump while doing my muscular Yoga exercises. The doctor’s immediate reply was “YOGA is not meant for everyone”. But, as a Yog Shikshak (Yoga Trainer), I did not agree with his viewpoint. I argued with him that “Yoga is meant for everyone”. I also explained to him that Yoga is not only about muscular exercises, but also includes Pranayam, Dhyan, Mudras and different Aasanas. All of these will be applicable to an individual based on their body condition. These Yogic Kriyas benefit the human being according to the suggested Yoga activities over a period of time. But a blind statement that “Yoga is not meant for everyone” is absolutely wrong.
Additionally I made it clear that we, as Yoga Shikshaks, explain the following based on the health condition of an individual
- विधि : Process
- लाभ : Benefits
- सबधानियाँ : Precautions
Furthermore, I also suggested him to join a Yoga class and learn how we teach to link various organs using different types of Pranayam, Dhyan, Mudras and Aasnas to keep an individual healthy and fit. So there is something for everyone in Yoga and thus it is meant for everyone.
I believe that he was half convinced with my argument, since I was a patient to him.
Need your opinion about what should have been added to explain this better.
Yoga is for body , mind and soul .
It brings peace of mind and gives sufficient oxygen to your body and brain which in return explains healthy mind is a healthy body.
Thank you for your reply and great insight into Yoga
I think you should have gifted him set of yoga books.
Well written 👍
An excellent article. The simple language used for explaining benefits of Yoga makes it understandable for everyone.
Dozens of scientific trials of varying quality have been published on yoga.
There’s some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.
Very useful information and article. Beneficial for each and every person.
Spell mistake in my name .
Well said Dipti ji. I completely agree with you. Keep it up 👍👌👌
Yog is a versatile subject which has many elements –
अष्टांग योग – योग के आठ अंग
यम, नियम, आसन, प्राणायाम, प्रत्याहार, धारणा, ध्यान और समाधि
This entire path is an uphill task, for common man, as an integrated subject “Yog*, however the applicable and feasible parts of it can be learned and inculcated in the lives under the guidance of Yog Guru 🙏 to lead a healthy, peaceful and beyond.. Life.
This is my perspective, which is not all abd complete. This is subject to refinement and correction to look forward towards Truth which is beyond Our perception. 🙏
Perfectly said, yoga is a must fir all. And one just need to identify right ones as per their body conditions. Yoga is not just fir physical fitness but prime aspect is to control your mind, feelings, heart, breathe and emotions.
Overall, nice thoughts and articulation. Keep it up !!

Yes, I agree. Yoga helps in keeping body , mind and soul healthy. Celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21 across the world is an evidence that world is seeing the value of yoga in life and is valuing the ancient science of Bharat.
Many Congratulations on your first Blog..!!
This article is the very fist step to understand and get more clarity on the myths and facts about Yoga.
If one get the clarity by questioning
himself about anything and create a good belief about the right things, that will really help and improve the life of that individual.
After doing yoga for some times now, I am also convinced that Yoga is not only about muscular exercises, but also includes Pranayam, Dhyan, Mudras and different Aasanas. All of these will be applicable to an individual based on their body condition. With the help and guidance of Guru, any individual can practice Yoga and achieve enormous health benefits.
Nicely explained
Well documented
Aside from the uplifting spiritual values, the act of meditation can actually boost your confidence. If you practise yoga consistently, your lung capacity will increase as a result of the deep breathing process. People often say that they are not flexible enough to do yoga. The truth is, it doesn’t matter how tight your muscles are as yoga asanas works by safely stretching your muscles and help you to practise it further. The beauty of yoga is that it can be practiced pretty much anywhere, on your own or with other yoga enthusiasts. I feel yoga is the best way to live a healthy and happy life.
My opinion – he is the guy who made a statement. I think you should have asked him why yoga is not for everyone and what is his rationale for saying so. I am very much sure he is just prejudiced against it as most of us Indians are about various traditional methods of doing certain things. Here in Holland, people are curious about Ayurveda and yoga, vegetarian food. In the future we will go to past!
Very aptly conveyed.. welcome to the blog world!!
Grear information indeed. I do agree and in my opinion yoga is the way to a rich life in every sense.
Well said
Yoga is good but to be done with restrictions based on body conditions e.g., vajrasan not to be done with knee problems.
It’s true that’s why yoga is based on individual’s body condition
I have been an irregular practitioner since last 12 years and even then the benefits are worth the effort put in.
I agree, Yoga is for all provided we get trained by a Yoga Teacher and understand what is best for us and correct way of doing Yoga.
I totally agree with what Arun said above. We should know his point of view to counter or may be even to understand his argument better.
Probably he was prejudiced, in that case what you said was a good response. Since yoga does not has any negative effect, I do not understand why it should not be for everyone.
I firmly believe it’s a myth that Yoga is not for everyone as Yoga is a series of stretches and poses that one does with breathing techniques. It offers the powerful benefits of exercise. And since yoga is gentle, almost anyone can do it, regardless of one’s age or fitness level.
